A WORD ABOUT THE HISTORY OF SAINT-LOUIS

The Verrerie de Saint-Louis, one of the oldest glass and crystal factories in France, is located in Lorraine, in the Moselle département. Founded in 1586 under the name of ‘Münzthal’, it has survived the centuries. In its early days, the glassworks produced mainly ordinary glass. In 1767, it began producing crystal, inspired by techniques developed in England. This marked the beginning of its international success. In 1829, the glassworks became the ‘Cristallerie Royale de Saint-Louis’, a title that underlined its excellence. It was from this point onwards that the glassworks enjoyed real success, thanks to its technical innovations and the quality of its products. It became a symbol of luxury and refinement, combining tradition and innovation. In 1989, the crystal works joined the Hermès luxury group, enabling it to strengthen its reputation while continuing to evolve. This partnership has enabled the Saint-Louis crystal glassworks to renew itself, while preserving the authenticity and expertise handed down from generation to generation.

A WORD ABOUT HIS SUCCESS

The company's craftsmen have mastered age-old techniques such as mouth-blowing, cutting, engraving and hand-decorating. These complex methods, handed down for centuries, produce creations of incomparable finesse and precision. The manufactory is also famous for its coloured crystals, obtained by the meticulous addition of metallic oxides to the crystal paste, giving varied hues and unique plays of light. Saint-Louis creations are diverse and varied. From tableware and decorative objects to lighting and jewellery, each piece is a work of art. Among the emblematic collections are the famous ‘Tommy’ glasses, created in 1928, which are highly prized and have become a symbol of elegance. Every year, the factory opens its doors for guided tours, giving visitors an insight into the manufacture of crystal and the development of techniques. The Verrerie de Saint-Louis, a symbol of French craftsmanship excellence, continues to win over lovers of art and luxury.
