Large carved wooden subject, lacquered in gold and red, representing the bodhisattva Quan Thê Âm (Avalokiteshvara) in an esoteric form with twelve arms, seated in padmasana on a lotus, crowned with a high tiara.
Two hands joined in his lap are in dhyana-mudra, the gesture of meditation, while above, two other hands are making the gesture known as chuân-dê, specific to this form of the bodhisattva. Among the other hands, spread around the deity, two hold a disk, possibly symbols of the moon and the sun. In this aspect, says Quan Âm chuân-dê, the deity is venerated as "the mother of the Buddha".
