First Section: Département du Haut-Rhin by Mr. Golbéry. Second Section: Département du Bas-Rhin by J.-G. Schweighaeuser. Brunet II, 1649. First edition of this important documentary source on the heritage monuments of Alsace. One of the few copies with plates printed on Chine; Brunet specifies that, at the time of publication, each issue on ordinary paper cost 6 francs, and issues on Chine cost 9 francs. Historian Marie Philippe Aimé Golbéry and archaeologist Jean-Geoffroy Schweighaeuser have produced one of the finest illustrated works on Alsace. Complete with 80 hors-texte lithographs, mostly by Bichebois and Chapuy. At the end of the first volume, there is a 24 pp. supplement entitled: "Monumens Romains. Porentrui, Pierre Percée, Camp du Mont-terrible, battle fought by Caesar against the Germans, including 8 additional plates. Old wet-stamped bookplates on title pages. A very fine copy, despite the presence of a few rare spots, not affecting any of the plates except one. The quality of the lithographs, printed on China paper, is remarkable.
