Alsatian wedding chest
Polychrome fir, brown dappled background, straight molded cornice, cartouche pediment reading "Magdalena Diebot 1840". Opening through two panelled doors, hand-painted polychrome decoration of bouquets with stylized lilies or irises, twigs and foliage in green or white with black stripes, reminiscent of Louis XV rocailles. The bouquets also feature half-open pomegranates in black and white, symbols of fertility and prosperity, typical of wedding furniture. The jambs are also panelled, the chamfers painted blue.
