SCHLUMBERGER (Camille) - Mulhouse portraits from the end of the 16th to the beginning of the 19th century. 160 plates reproduced in phototype by Maison Braun, Clément & Cie, Dornach. Ribeauvillé, S.e. (the text was printed by Ernest Méninger, Mulhouse), 1906; large in-4, leaves, in publisher's flap folder (folder with some wear and tear). Unique first edition, limited to 460 copies, of this collection of portraits of Mulhouse bourgeois, i.e. members of families who, before 1798 - the date of Mulhouse's reunion with France - possessed what was known as the "Droit de Bourgeoisie Privilégié" and formed the aristocracy of this small republic. With a few rare exceptions, the book only covers the generation that came of age around 1830. Complete with 160 plates.
