ESTIENNE (Charles) - Discours des histoires de Lorraine & - Lot 246
ESTIENNE (Charles) - Discours des histoires de Lorraine & de Flandres. Paris, Chez Charles Estienne, 1552; large in-8, 56 pages, full 19th-century brown chagrin, ribbed spine and boards decorated with cold-stamped fillets and fleurons, double fillet on the edges, interior lace (the paper on the first counter-ply, on which is Arthur Benoit's bookplate, is partially detached). Renouard, Estienne, p. 104. A rare first and only edition, in which Estienne justifies France's rights over Flanders and Lorraine (where Henri II was campaigning - siege of Metz in 1552). The title page, of which only a few fragments remained at the time of binding, is fully rebacked, with a few old handwritten annotations. Some pages slightly soiled, with rare handwritten annotations. Ex-libris Arthur Benoit. As is.
