De Animalium motione. De Animalium incessu. De Extensione & brevitate vitae. De Juventute & senectute, Morte & vita ; & de Spiratione. Omnia in latinum conversa, & antiquorum more explicata a Nicolao Leonico Thomaeo, etc. RELATED: Antilutherus tres libros complectens, by Clicthove. Paris, Simon de Colines, 1530-1524; 2 works in one volume, 8 ff.n.ch. + 373 pp. + 1 blank f. + 126 pp. + 1 blank f. + 83 pp. + 7 pp.n.ch. + 1 blank f. + 181 ff. + 8 ff.n.ch., antique limp vellum, smooth spine with handwritten title (vellum creased, body of book largely detached from binding, endpapers missing, leather on flaps bare). Reunion of two impressions by Simon de Colines. The first (1530), divided into three parts each with its own title page, is an edition of Aristotle's little treatises on natural history, translated and commented on by Niccolò Leonico Tomeo (1456-1531), philologist and professor of philosophy at the University of Padua. It is illustrated with 52 small woodcut figures in the text, and numerous ornate woodcut initials. The second printing (1524) is the editio princeps of the famous treatise against Luther, by Josse Clicthove. A copy with a few defects: library stamps on the first title leaf and on leaves b2 and &6; the title page shows some foxing, which continues on the following 3 leaves and sometimes in the body of the work, without severity; wetness on leaves aa.iiii, aa.v and aa. vi; worm gallery in the margin of some 50 leaves, without affecting the text. Apart from these defects and the condition of the binding, a well-preserved and complete copy. Sold as is.
