MEYER (Ant.) - Alsatian biographies with photographic portraits. First, second, third, fourth and fifth series. Published with the collaboration of P. Ristelhuber, Angel Ingold, H. Cetty, L. Dacheux, Ch. Gouttzwiller, Ch. Grad, J. Guerber, M. Heid, G. A. Hirn, Arm. Ingold, E. Meininger, X. Mossmann, R. Reuss, Ad. Schaeffer, Ch. Schmidt, etc, etc. Colmar, Ant. Meyer, 1883-1890; 5 large volumes in-8, each with 48 ff. of photographic plates accompanied by biographical notes on one or two leaves, first volume: contemporary red half-chagrin with corners, ornate ribbed spine (binding a little tired, a few stains on the boards); volumes II, III, IV and V: contemporary red half-maroquin with corners, ribbed spine, gilt heads. Rare compilation of the five series (all that appeared) of Alsatian biographies, each comprising 48 original photographs mounted on captioned strong card, for a total of 240 portraits. The binding of the first volume differs from that of the following ones: it is slightly smaller in format, as the leaves have not been mounted on tabs, unlike the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th series. Minor blemishes and scattered foxing, but a good set all the same.
