SANSONETTI (Victor de) - Description of the former church of - Lot 845
SANSONETTI (Victor de) - Description of the former church of the Antonistes, now the parish of Saint-Martin in Pont-à-Mousson. View, plan, section, details and text. Bound in the suite: Tente de Charles le Téméraire, duc de Bourgogne, ou Tapisserie prise par les Lorrains, lors de la mort de ce prince devant leur capitale, en 1477. Nancy et Paris, Chez Grimblot - chez Leleux, 1844-1843 ; 2 works bound in an in-folio volume, 2 ff.n.ch. + frontispiece + 11 pp. + 6 ff. plates + 2 ff.n.ch (title and faux-titre) + 1 f. of plate + 20 pp. + 6 ff. of plates + 5 ff. added, slightly later half red basane with corners, smooth muted spine, covers preserved (binding a little rubbed, handwritten label on spine).
Rare first editions of two publications by Sansonetti. Yellow covers of both works preserved. The first volume includes a lithograph depicting the portal of the Église Saint-Martin, and 6 hors texte plates (plan, section, details), all based on Sansonetti's drawings. The volume devoted to tapestry includes a lithograph added as a frontispiece, which is not part of the publication: Duke René II.'s entry into Nancy after the battle of January 5, 1476, and the 6 lithographed plates after Sansonetti's drawings. In addition, an enthusiast had a lithograph, again after Sansonetti, representing the tapestry of the Château d'Haroue, watercolored, and two handwritten copies, also in color, of plates drawn by the same artist - copies made by "Arthus Benoist" - bound in fine. Finally, a mitered lithograph of Nancy's "La Croix-gagnée", with its inscriptions, has been placed at the end of the collection. Some foxing, but a good copy. Ex-libris Arthur Benoit. 85
