SARREGUEMINES - Lot 459

SARREGUEMINES "Mme Grégoire" match-holder Circa 1870 Match-holder in fine earthenware coated with glazes colored with metallic oxides, known as Majolica. Bears the shape number "140", which corresponds to a "Porte-allumette Mme Grégoire" in the Sarreguemines faienceware number list. There's a counterpart, match holder no. 141, "Mr Grégoire". Obtained by casting, it features an angry lady holding a broom in one hand, raising her fist with the other in a threatening gesture. At her feet, a wooden tub forms the match holder. Debossed markings under the base: "C 03 - SARREGUEMINES" for the factory, "C 07 - MAJOLICA", "140" for the shape number. Height: 16.5 cm Restorations and missing parts
