Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904) - Lot 5
Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904) Rosewood chest, the base rectangular, the lid trapezoidal, with inlaid decoration on the front and sides of tulips and a dragonfly on the top tray. This case has undergone extensive restoration. The top veneer and fillet are not original. On the front, the rosewood motifs forming arches and volutes have been restored, and a marquetry bat has probably been added to conceal a keyhole in poor condition; the two sides have lost their wooden applications forming an arch, and on the two front corners of the lid the carved motifs in the shape of a tulip button have lost some of their relief, while on the two rear corners the carved motifs have been removed. Signature in inlaid letters on the front of the box: Gallé Circa 1900/1903 H 26 x W 39 x D 28 cm Bibliographical reference: Gallé, n° 163, page 278, Exhibition catalog, Paris, Musée du Luxembourg, Éditions de la RMN, F-Th Charpentier et Ph Thiébaut.
