LIGHT CAVALRY OFFICER'S SABER, July Monarchy - Lot 456
LIGHT CAVALRY OFFICER'S SABER, July Monarchy Brass mountings. Three-pronged crossguard decorated with engraved lines. Long-tailed pommel decorated with engraved lines. Wooden handle wrapped in calfskin, with copper filigree. Curved white blade with hollow edges. Scabbard made entirely of steel, with a steel ring at the hilt and a steel scabbard mouth. France, First Empire Total length: 100.5 cm Blade length: 81 cm Fairly good condition; scabbard in poor condition, heavily oxidized This saber model, created during the First Empire, remained in use throughout the 19th century; some officers passed them down from generation to generation until the early 20th century. The scabbard, featuring a single loop ring, is most certainly an example of this tradition. Appraisal by Bertrand Malvaux
