Regency-style chest of drawers known as the “Tombeau” - Lot 287
Regency-style chest of drawers known as the “Tombeau” Rosewood and palisander veneers forming contrasting geometric scrollwork, buff-finished, with numerous finely chiseled gilded bronze elements foreshadowing the Rocaille style of the reign of Louis XV, featuring acanthus leaves, ear-shaped motifs, female busts, and seashells. The curved chest, rounded on all sides, has three drawers and rests on a short, curved base ending in a gilded wooden scroll (likely re-gilded), as is the apron. The piece is topped with a brecciated marble slab of the “Rouge de Rance” type, featuring a “bec-de-corbin” molding. No key H 84 x W 128 x D 71 cm Restorations and minor losses
